As part of the City of Carmel’s pavement preservation program, the following subdivisions will receive crackseal and mastic patch treatments:
Crack sealing is the process of placing an adhesive sealant into cracks on the pavement surface, preventing the infiltration of moisture and non-compressible materials into the pavement. It is a cost-effective pavement preservation treatment that can slow pavement’s deterioration and extend pavement life by three to five years. A crack-sealed road can be opened to traffic almost immediately when a de-tacking agent is used.
The Cracksealing process has been completed in the above subdivisions.
Mastic patching is a hot-applied, aggregate-filled polymer-modified asphalt used to repair pavement distresses that are too severe for standard crack sealing but too small for full repaving. It is ideal for filling cracks wider than 1.5 inches, shallow potholes, alligator cracks, and sunken utility cuts. Mastic sealant is one option that can be used in pavement repair. These treatments are used to repair distresses larger than those typically repaired by crack or joint sealing, but smaller than repairs requiring remove-and-replace patching procedures. Typical uses include filling and leveling of wide transverse or longitudinal cracks and joints, filling potholes and utility cuts, localized skin patch repairs and leveling bridge approaches or faulted areas.
The Mastic material will be applied to the most severe transverse cracks from curb to curb.
During the Mastic application process, no traffic will be delayed or rerouted. The mastic will be applied so that vehicles can pass. Do not drive across the Mastic material unless directed by the personnel applying it.
Mastic process is weather dependent. Rain will change the schedule.
